Ensuring women take part in the decisions that affect their lives.

01The challenge

Women in many rural communities are excluded from decision-making in governance, development planning and community leadership.

This exclusion limits their ability to influence the policies and development initiatives that directly affect their livelihoods.

02Our intervention

Through the Action for Voice and Inclusive Development (AVID) programme, DFWC supported women to strengthen their voice in local governance and development processes. The initiative focused on:

  • Leadership and advocacy training for women
  • Civic education and rights awareness
  • Strengthening women's participation in community meetings
  • Supporting dialogue between women and local authorities

03The impact

  • Women gained confidence to take part in community governance.
  • Women leaders emerged within community structures.
  • Communities became more inclusive in decision-making.
  • Women's voices began to shape development activities.

Why it matters

Inclusive development needs the participation of everyone in society. When women are included in leadership and governance, development programmes become more responsive and sustainable.
