01The challenge
Many development initiatives are designed externally, with limited input from local communities.
The result is often programmes that do not fully meet local needs or build lasting community ownership.
02Our intervention
The Shift the Power Programme strengthens local leadership so that communities have greater control over development decisions. The programme supports:
- Capacity building for local civil society organisations
- Stronger community leadership structures
- Locally driven development initiatives
- Accountability and transparency in development processes
03The impact
- Communities gained stronger ownership of development initiatives.
- Local leaders became more confident managing projects.
- Civil society organisations strengthened their institutional capacity.
- Development initiatives became more locally driven and sustainable.
Why it matters
Sustainable development happens when communities lead their own change. Empowering local actors keeps development relevant and effective.
