When Women Understand Their Rights

Women gathered for a community education session

In many rural communities, women face harmful cultural practices and limited awareness of their rights. But knowledge is power.

Through rights awareness and community education programmes by DFWC, women are learning how to protect themselves and support each other.

Meet Tahiru Amina

Tahiru Amina remembers a time when many women in her community did not know where to seek help when facing abuse or harmful practices.

“We thought it was something we had to endure.”

A turning point: rights awareness training

DFWC organised community sessions that educated women on:

  • Women's rights
  • Personal safety
  • Preventing harmful practices
  • Community support systems

“Now we know our rights, and we know how to protect each other.”

A safer community for women

Today women in Techipe feel more confident speaking about their rights, support each other against harmful practices, and promote safety and respect within their community.
